Heavy fighting is ongoing between Chin resistance forces and junta troops in Falam Township in northern Chin State, with eight resistance fighters, including a captain, were killed during the second week of March.
Byet Hlay Kyone, a member of the Chinland Defence Force–Zophei (CDF-Zophei), was killed in action on March 15 during fierce clashes between Chin resistance forces and junta troops, as the coalition resisted an attempted advance from Kale Town in Sagaing Region toward Falam Town.
On the same day, Salai Khin Bway, a CDF-Zotung member, was also killed while resisting a junta offensive along the Kale–Falam Road. Separately, 23-year-old CDF-Hualngoram member Vanneihhlua and 18-year-old Chin National Army (CNA) fighter Maung Gyi were also killed on the frontline.
On March 13, the junta conducted an airstrike on Falam Town, killing CNA Captain Nyan Lin Aung, female lance corporal Man Date Nwam, and comrade Shan Byet.
In Thantlang Town, Chin State, CDF-Thantlang commando unit leader Salai Van Nun Ham was killed in an accidental blast during clashes.
The junta is currently firmly entrenched in the Sumhrang, Khuangli, and Lumbang villages of Falam Township and is launching an offensive to capture Falam Town and nearby Surbung Airport.
From November 2025, when junta columns began attempting to advance toward Falam Town, through the end of February 2026, fighting in northern Chin State left at least 42 Chin resistance fighters including members of the Chin National Army (CNA), Chin National Defence Force (CNDF), and Chin Defence Force (CDF), killed and more than 100 wounded, according to the Institute of Chin Affairs (ICA).
About 1,000 junta troops are attempting to reach Falam by advancing along the Waibula–Falam and Taingen–Falam roads, but the Chin resistance coalition is using various methods, including drone strikes, to block their progress, resulting in more than 200 regime soldiers killed and over 40 captured as prisoners of war (PoWs).
