A meeting of the Network for Chin Civil Societies (NCCS), formed recently to promote the rights of Chins, was concluded in Hakha, the capital of Chin State, Burma. The meeting spanned two days from 30 to 31 July.

The meeting passed resolutions for the victims of violation of the human rights by the military regime and to promote the basic rights of the Chin people. The group has also been supporting the peace process between the central government and the Chin National Front.

The meeting announced its aims and objectives that the group intends to promote unity among Chin people, usher in peace in the state and establish a genuine democracy in Burma.

An NCCS statement following the meeting says that the group will join hands with others in respective Chin State Townships and create a common cause. It will also approach religious and social groups of Chins and seek their cooperation to promote a common issue.

“We will go about the planning step by step with social workers inside Chin state and abroad for establishing democracy in our country. And then we will interact with other NGOs,” said Mai Vel Tha Chin, coordinator of NCCS.

NCCS was formed on June 2012 with nine township social activity groups of Chin state.
