A forest fire razed to the ground 23 houses in Kakuau and Pakataung villages of Paletwa Township, southern Chin state at 2 pm on March 20.
In Pakataung village, 14 of 30 houses were reduced to ashes and 9 houses in Kakuau village were also gutted. Now there are 32 homeless people in Kakuau village and 52 in Pakataung village, Khumi media said.
While there has been no casualty from the fire many have been rendered homeless and are in need of urgent help.
In Chin state, people are still into shifting cultivation and they burn forests in summer before the cultivation starts. It leads to instances of the fire spreading and burning homes.
In another incident, Pu Hmunhre’s house near A.G. Church in Thantlang town was gutted at 9:30 am on 30 March.
