The former Chief Minister of Mizoram, Pu Zoramthanga, President of the Mizo National Front (MNF) returned from a Myanmar peace process meeting between the Myanmar government and 17 ethnic armed groups in Yangon, Myanmar on 31 January 2015.

A statement from the Mizo National Front (MNF) said that Pu Zoramthanga returned to Aizawl, Mizoram northeast state of India from his mission of the peace process between the Myanmar government and ethnic armed groups.

He had reached Yangon on January 12 from Kolkata and met officials of the Union Peace Working Committee (UPWC) and Nationwide Ceasefire Committee Team (NCCT) in Yangon, Myanmar.

After his return from Yangon, he went to Bangkok, Thailand to meet leaders of ethnic armed groups. He said, “Although we are in the initial stages, we had a successful discussion but we have more work to do in the future.”

When he came back to India, he met Ajit Kumar Doval, National Security Adviser under the Home Ministry in New Delhi, the statement said.

Pu Zoramthanga, President of MNF was invited by Inter Mediate (IM Ltd.) group, based in England for his experiences in peace talks between the Indian government and the Mizo National Front (MNF), which fought as an underground-armed group for 20 years.
