The government funding will take over from the Livelihoods and Food Security Trust in June 2019.

An ongoing assistance program for pregnant women and infants under age two will continue with government funding after the current term runs out next year, officials said.

According to the Chin State social welfare minister Pau Lu Hmin Than, the program began in June 2017 and is set to continue until June 2019 under the Livelihoods and Food Security Trust Fund (LIFT). It is after this point that the government will take over the project, which provides 15,000 kyats (US$9.80) per month to pregnant women and families with infants in the state. A total of 20,600 people receive the aid, delivered bi-monthly.

“We wrote it in an MoU [Memorandum of Understanding],” Pau Lu Hmin Than told Khonumthung News of the government takeover of the program. “We drafted an estimated budget. We have to run it [starting]in June 2019.”

The minister said that the scheme has gotten positive feedback from recipients so far and that the results will be seen more clearly after 10 years of continuous assistance.

Minister Pau Lu Hmin Than attended the launch of the Baseline Survey Findings on the Maternal and Child Cash Transfer Program at the Park Royal Hotel in Naypyidaw on Wednesday. Khonumthung News learned, through these findings, that LIFT initially provided $13 million for the two-year project.
