    Hakha landslide destroys 300 houses and 2000 people are displaced

    About 300 houses had destroyed and more than 2000 had evacuated their houses, because of heavy rains and landslides in Hakha, Chin state western Myanmar.  U Shwethiau, a resident of Hakha said that 196 houses at old capital block, 69 houses at Kei Thei Bo block, and 16 houses at New Market block in Hakha had destroyed by landslide recently, and more than 2600 were displaced to safety area.

    “Although there is no more rain in Hakha, lands are very soft as continuous heavy rain had changed hard soil and ready to slide anytime,” said U Shwetiau, a resident of Hakha.

     

    There are 8 relief centers in Hakha and people are working with Chin state government in order to aid the affected people by landslide and other natural disasters, he added.

     

    “All connecting main roads with Hakha and other townships were destroyed by landslide and we cannot in take rice into Hakha, it will take at least 20 days to recover. Therefore, military had borrowed and distributed 500 bags of rice to people from their stock,” said Dr. Ba Maung, Minister of Social Welfare.

     

    Myanmar vice President U Nyan Tun and his group had visited to Hakha on 2 August, after President U Thein Sein had announced emergency on 3 states and other regions in Myanmar on July 31st, and they had met local people and had arranged how to aid the affected people.

     

    “Vice president had met public at Carson Baptist in Hakha and he said that rice will be supplied by military helicopter from Gangaw and he will take immediate action to help the students who lost their school text books and uniforms,” said a local in Hakha.

     

    Similarly, there are 580 houses had sunk in flood, 32 houses had destroyed by landslide and cyclone , and more than 3000 had evacuated their houses in Paletwa currently, reported by Ko Kyaw Aung, Chairman of Khumi Youth Group
