A workshop relating to health issues in order to promote awareness among the people, was conducted in Hakha, the capital of Chin state, Burma on 12 September.

Over a 100 people including members of civil societies, owner of clinics, drug stores, government departmental officials, staff members of the medical department of the Chin state government and some Hluttaw members attended the workshop, said a local.

“The workshop was useful for local people. Such activities should be replicated in various places in the state,” said a participant.

Incidences of various diseases were discussed in the workshop and ways to tackle them were laid down.

Cases of malaria, diarrhoea, dysentery and hypertension have been reported in the city because of inclemency, pollution and careless consumption of food.

The Hakha post reported that the workshop decided to have a full time doctor on duty, to set up a nurse’s training centre, to appoint a nurse for every 100 households in the state and to build a rapport between health workers and local people.

It is learnt that Pu Van Cin, state Hluttaw member proposed setting up a mobile clinic for rural areas. The minutes of the workshop will be submitted at the upcoming health workshop in Nayphidaw organized by Dr. Soe Oo, Director of the state health department.
