The Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC) has deplored the military regime for its recent execution of four political prisoners including prominent leaders Ko Jimmy, a 1988 pro-democracy uprising veteran, and Phyo Zayar Thaw, former National League for Democracy lawmaker.
The two activists had been sentence to death for allegedly conspiring to commit attacks against regime targets and were gaoled since their arrests last year.
In a statement on Monday, ICNCC said that the killings demonstrate the regime’s obstinance in resolving political problems peacefully as well as a blatant disregard for the wishes of the people desiring to live under a democratic federalism.
The deaths of the four men have sent shock waves throughout the nation as many people didn’t really expect for the regime to execute them.
“We strongly condemn the military regime on these brutal actions. The people, including Chin nationalities, are committed to fight against the junta.”
On Monday, the military regime’s mouthpiece media outlets Myanma Alin and Kyay Mone reported on the executions of Ko Jimmy, whose real name is Kyaw Min Yu, Ko Phyo Zeya Thaw, Hla Myo Aung and Aung Thura Zaw, claiming they were carried out according to the law.
However, they didn’t say when the men were killed and the regime hasn’t returned their bodies to their families.
“They sacrificed their life for the freedom of the people during the Spring Revolution,” ICNCC said, saluting them for their bravery while offering condolences to their families.
