The governments of India and Myanmar officials have discussed supplying electricity to Sagaing region (Myanmar) on August 4 in Tamu, border town of Myanmar.
E-Po newspaper in Manipur state said that in the meeting, Govindas Konthoujam, leader, Minister of Trade and Industry from the Indian government and U Khin Maung Soe, leader, U Kyaw Win, Electricity and Industry Minister, U Hla Maung, Chairman of Tamu town border trade and commerce from Myanmar government attended.
They discussed mainly how to distribute electricity in Sagaing region. All the points discussed will be informed to higher authorities by U Khin Maung Soe. If the central government of Myanmar agrees to the discussion, the Indian government will supply all necessary equipment.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has urged the Myanmar government to accept the programme of constructing an Indo-Myanmar border gate inside Indian territory, the newspaper added.
Besides, the Indian government has requested to release six residents of Manipur state arrested under the Myanmar military regime. In this regard, Myanmar officials said that it has to be informed to higher authorities for necessary action immediately.
