International Peace Day was celebrated with an appeal to end armed conflicts in Burma. The event was organized in Paletwa Town of southern Chin state, Burma on September 23 by the Chin Taung Tan Foundation (CTTF).

“We were prepared to organize the event on September 21, but the permission was delayed by the Township administration office. So we opted for September 23,” said a CTTF member.

Around 50 local departmental officials, leaders of local social groups, members of Chin Christian Churches and Buddhists attended. A service was conducted with prayers for peace in Burma in the conflict ridden ethnic regions.

“We distributed T-shirts with peace signs and CDs. The participants were in their traditional dresses,” said a local from Paletwa Town.

U Mang Lay, Director of CTTF not only spoke of CTTF’s background and the foundation’s aims and objects but also the background of International Peace Day, said a local.

Pual Thun Khaing, the Father of Roman Catholic Church also addressed the gathering and said the country’s development has to be founded on peace and stability. “We need forgive each other,” he added.

The ceremony was concluded with prayers of Thawng Hoih, a Chin Christian Church of Paletwa. Khonumthung news
