The junta bombed a primary school in Vanha Village, Hakha Township, Chin State, killing two children and injuring many others.
At around 10:30 am on October 13, a junta fighter jet carried out an airstrike on Vanha Village, about 30 miles from Hakha, the capital of Chin State, killing and injuring children, parents, and civilians who had gathered at the school to clean the compound.
“The school was bombed at around 10:30 a.m. It looks like the airstrike was aimed at the main building, but the bomb actually landed on the school grounds behind it. Many children who were cleaning the school compound were hit. We don’t know the exact number of casualties yet, but at least two children have died, and some of the injured are in critical condition,” said an officer from Chinland Defence Force – Hakha (CDF-Hakha).
Locals reported that two 7-year-old children were killed, and many children along with some parents were injured, several critically.
About 15 minutes after the junta’s fighter jet struck the school, a drone arrived and launched another attack on Vanha Village. It is not yet clear which part of the village was targeted in this follow-up strike.
On October 8, the junta carried out airstrikes on schools in Vawmm’Tu and Htinchaung villages, Mindat Township, southern Chin State, killing three students and a disabled woman, and injuring around 10 others.
Following the junta’s airstrikes, the resistance-led Mindat People’s Administration ordered schools in Mindat Township to close temporarily starting October 10.
