The military council launched additional airstrikes on Mindat and Kanpetlet in southern Chin State on the afternoon of 2 April, destroying government buildings and houses.
According to Mindat residents and the Mindat Township People’s Administration Team, the military council attacked Mindat with the jet fighter, at around 1:30 p.m. on 2 April, dropping two 500-pound bombs.
“The junta dropped bombs on the town twice. Some houses and buildings were destroyed. There were no reports of civilian casualties,” said Ko Yaw Man from Mindat Township People’s Administration Team.
Five buildings were severely damaged in the airstrike on Mindat, while five others were slightly damaged.
On 1 April, the military council attacked Mindat town with two 500-pound bombs, reportedly destroying three houses.
Similarly, on 2 April, Kanpetlet residents said that the military council conducted airstrikes on the town. The military council carried out two aerial bombings on Kanpetlet—one on 2 April, once at 1:20 p.m. and once at around 2 p.m. The Kanpetlet Township General Administration Department (GAD) office and the Rural Development Office were destroyed by fire, and a house near the Education Officer’s office was also completely destroyed.
“The people are said to be safe. Everyone ran as soon as they heard the sound. It hit the GAD office, the rural development office, and a house. The attack appears to have targeted offices, said a local from Kanpelet.
Chin resistance forces have warned residents to be especially vigilant about the dangers of airstrikes.
On 28 March, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing widespread damage and loss of life. Despite calls from some Chin resistance forces and People’s Defense Forces for the military council to immediately cease aerial bombing during the earthquake emergency, the military council continues to conduct airstrikes.
Despite statements by the People’s Defense Forces and ethnic resistance forces offering a temporary ceasefire due to the earthquake, coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, stated that they will continue to engage in combat and will carry out necessary defense operations.
