    Kalay-Yangon Buses Start Running Again

Bus routes between Kalay town in Sagaing Region and Yangon started operating again on Thursday after being halted for one month as a coronavirus prevention measure.

Seven bus lines drive between Kalay and Yangon; Shwe Mandalar, Chin Tawng Tan and High Class are the ones that have re-started their routes from the Kalay bus terminal.

“We have allowed bus lines to operate between Kalay and Yangon again because the Yangon bus terminal has started to accept buses. The transportation authorities are likely to allow all bus companies across the country to run their operations again on May 15,” Soe Win, chair of Kalay’s private bus operation committee, told Khonumthung News.

He added that the bus companies must follow guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS), and only fill their seats to 50 percent capacity.

Bus routes have not been reinstated between Kalay and Mandalay.

People who travel from Yangon to Kalay will be required to quarantine at home for 21 days, but those who travel from Kalay to Yangon are not required to quarantine. It is unclear how the home quarantine will be enforced.

The MoHS reported six confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kalay. At the time of reporting, there had been no reported deaths or full recoveries in the town.
