A man from Mindat, abducted by State Administration Council (SAC) last month, has been killed in the regime’s interrogation centre in southern Chin State. SAC arrested three people without reason on October 24, according to Mindat Chinland Defense Force (CDF).
A woman was released while the other person remains in custody.
The deceased man was a teacher in a public school under National Unity Government (NUG), according to an anonymous tip. NUG was formed by lawmakers, ethnic armed groups and civil societies resisting the military regime.
“Recently, Burma army has been abducting civilians in Mindat without probable cause. Sometimes they use them as human shields on patrols in the area,” the source told Khonumthung News. Soldiers demonstrate no regard for civilians and people need to watch out, he said.
In mid-October, SAC detained a 29-year-old at the 4-Miles Checkpoint in Mindat. The man is still in detention.
CDF have been fighting SAC troops in Mindat and on October 25 fighting flared up in eastern section of the town.
Indiscriminate regime shelling has been heavy last month in Taik Nel 2,3,4, 6-mile villages and along the Mindat – Matupi road.
According to locals, 23 shells were fired and five animals were killed, six homes and two motorcycles destroyed.
Another Mindat anonymous source explained SAC will attack a village if it finds out a meeting happened there or areas where resistance groups travel through. Usually this happens because it received information from civilians.
“People need to consider twice before they speak. If the Burma army doesn’t receive news, they won’t attack villages with artillery.”
In October, the Institute of Chin Affairs reported SAC has killed 217 civilian people, including 38 women, since the coup nearly three years ago Regime soldiers are responsible for committing serious human rights abuses in Chin State.
