A decision to build a Buddhist pagoda was passed at a Chin State ministerial meeting between 24 and 27 February 2012.

The decision was taken at the Chin state government ministerial meeting after the first state Hluttaw regular assembly in Hakha, the capital of Chin state, Burma on 11 February.

“This decision should be submitted as a motion in the Hluttaw assembly for discussion among Hluttaw representatives,” felt a town elder from Hakha.

The motion to build a pagoda was submitted by the state Chief Minister and Colonel Zaw Min Oo, Security and Border Affairs Minister. The decision was passed by 11 ministerial members including Mr. Hung Ngai, Chief Minister of Chin state and Chief Justice of the state.

“Now, six ministers are Christians and five ministers are Buddhists in the Chin state ministry. But at the meeting, they may not have made a distinction over religion,” said a state Hluttaw representative from Hakha.

The pagoda site was also decided at the meeting. It will be built in Hakha, near the entrance gate to the hill from Than Tlang Town.

The hill near Myotit block of Hakha is being used for prayer services by Chin Christians.

The budget for the pagoda was not discussed at the ministers’ meet. Khonumthung news
