Three people, including a teenager, were injured when Burma Army soldiers (BA) opened fire after being attacked by the Kalay People’s Defence Force (PDF) while patrolling Kalay town in Sagaing Region.
Members of the resistance group’s ‘urban guerrilla task force’ attacked two trucks carrying BA soldiers with landmines at around 7:30am on 10 September. Locals reported that the soldiers fired indiscriminately in all directions for 30 minutes after the attack.
18-year-old Maung Tawl Suam Pao suffered minor injuries to his leg while on his way to a training session.
“After receiving medical attention, he was able to continue to his training,” a local source with knowledge of the incident told Khonumthung News.
A woman on a motorbike was injured on her jaw and left shoulder, while the other victim, an employee of a petrol station, was injured on her leg while working. Stray bullets damaged two houses and the landmine explosion caused damage to one house.
At least three BA soldiers were injured in the blast, the PDF said. Khonumthung News, however, could not independently confirm this information.
The armed group has warned civilians not to approach the junta soldiers as they could attack them at any time in Kalay Township, where fighting is ongoing.
The day before, at 10:30am, the PDF ambushed two BA trucks loaded with soldiers near Pat Lwa Wood Mill in Chan Myae Aung Si Ward of Kalay with three landmines, reportedly killing many soldiers, including a senior officer, and injuring others. After the attack, the army arrested 10 people in the area.
