Armed forces shot dead a youth and wounded three others during a patrol in Tedim town in northern Chin State on Friday night, 29 April.

“The police and soldiers mistook them for the PDF (People’s Defence Forces) and shot at them,” a man told Khonumthung News on condition of anonymity.

He said Khaing Liang Mung, 17, died in front of a Baptist church in Myoma ward.

The others suffered a hip injury and a wound to the bladder, respectively. The latter youth worked at Mytel, a telecommunications company that is a joint venture between the military and Viettel, which is owned by the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence.

Locals report hearing gunshots in Myoma and Lwe Bwal wards of Tedim on Saturday night. Shots and explosions were also heard near Burma Army Infantry Battalion 269.
