The Matupi Chinland Defence Force (CDF) claims to have killed at least eight regime soldiers and wounded five after they were attacked near Nga Lai in Matupi Township on 21 January.

Aaron, CDF spokesperson for Mindat, said fighting broke out between resistance forces and the military in their Battalion 2 area on the Hakha to Matupi road in southern Chin State between 2pm and 4pm. The Matupi armed group were supported by CDFs from Mara and Zotung.

The fighting started between Nga Lai and the General Administration District office and spread to a nearby government housing and then to the Hpa Nai Buddhist monastery.

“They attacked us with excessive force and we defended ourselves as best we could before withdrawing from the area.”

Over a week ago, 100 regime soldiers attacked the Matupi CDF’s outpost camp near Nga Lai, killing one resistance fighter.

The group also lost 2 M-4 rifles, 2 pistols, 11 motorbikes, 7 mobile phones, some rifle ammunition and $715 after they were also forced to make a hasty retreat.

After, the army reportedly torched two houses and used backhoes to destroy three more houses in Nga Lai.
