Resistance forces have pinned down the Burma Army (BA) after relentless ambushes on its soldiers travelling south from Kalay town in Sagaing Region.

During two days of clashes, at least 13 BA soldiers were killed by People’s Defence Forces (PDF), Chin National Defence Force and Ranger Kalay Defend Force.

Victor, the spokesperson for the Kalay branch of the PDF, said they killed at least 5 regime soldiers during another raid on 150 soldiers travelling in 6 trucks between Sitha and Nat Myaung, and destroyed one of their trucks.

The spokesperson has reported that 20 soldiers were killed, including 3 officers, during fighting near Yay Shin near the eastern bank of the Myit Tha River on 22 April.

Several BA columns approaching the village from two distinct routes, Kyauk Pyouk and Inn Kyun, were attacked by resistance groups.

During the violence that continued until the next day, a Kalay PDF fighter was killed and two others wounded.

They also clashed with a BA military convoy travelling from Kalay town to Nat Chaung, Nat Myaung, Sitha and Chaungwa.

On April 25, the resistance groups claimed they killed eight soldiers after raiding a column that left Nat Chaung.

After suffering many casualties during attacks, the BA soldiers are now trapped between Aung Chan Tha and Chaungwa.

A man from Nat Chaung, which is close to Chaungwa, said the soldiers burned 34 homes in the village and 6 in Aung Chan Tha since the start of the week.
