    Rs. 70 lakh worth of medicines seized in Mizoram

    The Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) of Mizoram, northeast India seized around Rs. 70 lakh worth of medicines from a Burmese national being smuggled out to Burma on December 5.

    The smuggler was arrested in Selling village near Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram with a truck load of medicines brought from Guwahati in Assam state to Mizoram.

    The smuggler was identified as Ramthansanga (38) from Tahan (A) block, Kalemyo, Sagaing division. The CADS officers handed him over to the local police station.

    “The medicines have been made in India, but some of it can also be used as drugs. These medicines are used as drugs in Burma,” said a local newspaper.

    The newspaper reported that the seized medicines are, Coolact 19,940 cards, Actiman 2,70,000 cards, Aquavet 3,08,1160, Encold 3,3,1200, ‘D’ 540900, Actiman 1,60,000 and Actiman 3,000,000 bottles.

    The authorities also seized such medicines being smuggled to Burma in Bawngkawn block of Aizawl.

    About Rs. 40 lakh worth of Indian medicines were seized from two Burmese nationals in Mizoram on 11 June 2011.
