Tatmadaw Ambushed By Resistance Groups In Northern Chin State

Chin resistance groups attacked a Tatmadaw column after the soldiers stopped at Thlan Rawn village after traveling from Falam Township in northern Chin State.

Pu Htet Ni, the Chin National Front/Chin National Army spokesman, told Khonumthung News that his soldiers and the Chinland Defence Force (CDF) attacked the column for 30 minutes at around 11 am on Thursday 14 October as it was heading towards Hakha.

“After we attacked them, Burma Army soldiers (BA) fired 122-mm mortars at us from Falam town and we retreated,” he said.

He said no one was injured, but he couldn’t say if any BA soldiers were hurt in the clash. Thlan Rawn is about 17 km from the town of Falam.

Local media reported that the Tatmadaw fired at least three shells.

The BA burnt down nine of thirty houses in Thlan Rawn. Villagers fled into the jungle to escape the shelling.

After the coup, the CNF, which signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, began training youths to fight the regime after it overthrew the democratic government.

In May, the CDF formed local chapters in all nine townships in Chin State to protect people resisting the regime’s rule, which led to fierce fighting.

Pu Htet Ni suspects that the military is regrouping in Hakha for a major military offensive.

Last Tuesday, the military torched ten houses, a church and a warehouse in Ril Thee village.

The soldiers also stole livestock, rice, cooking oil and salt from the villagers.
