Resistance forces in Kalay Township collected the bodies of three dead Burma army soldiers following clashes on 10 March, according to a statement from the No-1 Military Region, which operates under the National Unity Government’s (NUG) Ministry of Defense.
Weapons and ammunition abandoned by the junta troops were also seized.
On 10 March, a combined force of resistance groups exchanged gunfire with Burma army and Pyusawhtee People’s Militia Force (Pyusawhtee PMF) troops in Kan Thayar village of Kalay Township in Sagaing Region.
During the clash resistance groups captured 24 assault rifles, 24 magazines, 1200 bullets, two landmines, and other military equipment.
The statement said that the combined force of resistance groups includes Kalay District PDF battalions, Special Task Force, Kalay District drone unit, RKDF, HNB, S2UG, EFDF, TCDF, Dawng Thwe Razar, GRF and local security groups.
The fighting broke out in Kan Thayar village when approximately 80 Burma army and Pyusawhtee PMF troops moved into the area to attack the resistance groups. In February, resistance groups captured Kan Thayar village from Burma army.
Since then the Burma army has attempted to recapture the village.
Military tensions remain high between Burma army and resistance groups across Kalay Township.
