A report said that USDP is not willing to accept donation of rice for distribution to villagers of Tonzang Township, northern Chin state through the Chin National Front by Nippon Foundation (Japan) from next month.

“Some leaders of the USDP in Tonzang Township had reported they cannot accept the rice donation of Nippon Foundation to Chin state government last month, so the state government has cancelled the permission of rice distribution by Nippon Foundation,” said a local to Khonumthung.

The government had destroyed poppy field measuring 672.86 acres in Tonzang Township, sub-township of Cikha by the district police enforcement in Falam on 10 to 24 December 2013. It was highlighted on the internet website of Information and Public Relationship Deparment, Myanmar on 3 January 2014.

“This issue had been discussed by CNF leaders’ at a meeting. As most Chin people are facing food shortage in various parts of Chin state, we have to distribute to other places,” said Dr. Shwe Khar, general secretary of CNF.

Locals said that there is some problem between USDP leaders in Tawnzang Township and Pu Haukang, in-charge of CNF Liaison office in Tidim town. Therefore, USDP has opposed the humanitarian assistance of the Nippon Foundation for Tawnzang Township.

The Nippon Foundation (Japan) had distributed rice bags in Tidim, Thantlang, Matupi and Paletwa townships in 2013. The project has been extended to Kanpalet and Tonzang Township this year.

In fact, the Chin National Front (CNF), Chin state government and the Union government had signed an agreement on eradication of poppies in Chin state.
