The United League of Arakan’s (ULA) armed wing, the Arakan Army (AA), has been attempting to capture a crucial camp in Paletwa Township from the military regime.
The camp, known as Num Bu, has been under attack by AA troops for nearly a month since the breakdown of a ceasefire with the junta’s State Administration Council (SAC).
SAC, in response, has launched airstrikes and artillery attacks to defend the strategically located camp in southern Chin State.
Clashes between AA and SAC have intensified in the region, with reports from locals indicating heightened confrontations.
On Monday, AA successfully seized another important camp named Ta Ron Aing (also Tarawaing) from SAC near the Kalandan River in the township, following a 21-day siege.
The captured camp includes a landing strip for small aircraft and regular helicopters. AA discovered the bodies of SAC soldiers, casualties of the raid, and retrieved weapons and ammunition as well as other equipment. An AA officer mentioned that their group also suffered casualties but did not provide further details.
The Arakanese armed group alleges that the junta used chemical weapons dropped from planes during clashes at Ta Ron Aing.
Other members of Three Brotherhoods Alliance—Ta’ang National Liberation Army and Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army—reported similar SAC attacks involving chemical weapons in offensives in northern Shan State, where AA is also fighting.
Mara Defense Force, a Chin resistance group, has been collaborating with AA in the effort to capture camps in southern Chin State.
