Cultivation of marijuana locally called Ganja, has become popular in some areas of Than Tlang Township, Chin state, Burma since this year. Ganja plantations, were systematically introduced in the village jhums of Zanak Tlang area of Than Tlang by local people, said a local. “The plantations mushroomed everywhere in our areas. The sands of Lemro River are yielding raw gold powder. The river is the second largest in Paletwa Township in Chin state. “When we break some stones on the river bank, we find spotted yellow dust inside. A road is being constructed between Matupi Town of Chin state, Burma and Bawiza area. The road will span 35 miles and is being built to promote development and provide for better communication in the region. The road will help cultivation on 400 acres of paddy fields, where the local people will become self sufficient in food. The second phase of the Union level peace talks between the Chin National Front (CNF) and the central government is to be held in Rangoon, the former capital of Burma soon.
