Troops from the military regime have set fire to a village in Sagaing Region, causing extensive damage to almost every home and burning down five churches, as reported by locals.
The soldiers launched an attack on Pyin Khon Gyi, situated along the Tar Han – Let Pan Chaung road, on April 12-13. Among the structures destroyed were the East Baptist, West Baptist, Wesleyan, Believer churches, and the Church of the Rock.
Pyin Khon Gyi, located approximately 7 miles from Kale town, comprises over 500 houses, with the majority of its residents being Chin.
The military regime has initiated a fresh offensive aimed at the armed resistance in northern Kale Township, where the village is located. Since the offensive began earlier this month, skirmishes between the Burma army and People’s Defence Forces have erupted multiple times.
Reportedly, Burma army soldiers are currently stationed in the nearby village of Sel Gyi, prompting all residents from Pyin Khon Gyi and other nearby villages to seek refuge from the army.
Last month, soldiers from the regime set fire to over 200 homes in Pyin Khon Lay, located near Tar Han ward in Kale town.
Conflict is also happening in the southern township.
