The regime’s airstrikes in Thangtlang have forced the closure of all schools in the township in northern Chin State.
“The military has attacked schools and civilian targets. Fighter jets have attacked Camp Victoria in Thangtlang and reconnaissance planes often fly over the township. We do not feel safe and are worried about the safety of our children,” said Salai Cross Thang, head of the Thangtlang Education Department, which is under the Public Administration of the revolutionary government.
Both the Public Administration and the education department have warned children to avoid the school grounds, including the playground, since the schools were closed on 16 January.
More than 15,000 students study at the 95 schools, which is about 90 per cent of the school-age children in the township.
The regime flew airstrikes on the Chin National Front headquarters from 10 to 11 January.
Five soldiers were killed on the first day and a clinic was destroyed and a clinic damaged in the second attack.
Locals fear further attacks after the junta has been flying reconnaissance ships over the area following the bombing of Camp Victoria.
